Do website widgets hurt my Google Rankings?

While looking for catalog software for a client I found this site that has a neat little scrolling catalog icon that grabs the website visitors eyes.

Thinking this might be just what I was looking for to optimize website media in the form of a catalog presentation...

No good. It appears that when Google came to the site googlebot got spun out and cached the widget and not the website content.

This implies.... if Google sees your website content as this: You can be pretty sure that a website widget will affect your Google search engine rankings. Google SEO guidelines and SEO best Practices indicate that you should always put these kind of items at the bottom of the page.

When the script fails you will have a hole in the bottom of your page for one... not the top. And more importantly Google considers the top of the page more important... therefore this widget example delivers garbage to Googlebot and does in fact hinder rankings. [In my honest seo expert opinion]
